APARTMENT  AT  KINGFISHER  TOWER

BANGALORE, INDIA

Within Kingfisher Tower – a modern glass clad skyscraper, the architecture of which is a rejection of Bangalore’s traditionalism and modest cultural background, is this apartment the Architect conceived to be her home. The interior lives in the tension between what endures and what emerges. It is both memory and ambition, a discipline where precision meets serenity.

The design intention was to create a monastic abode of essentials that allows minimalistic new age living of fewer possessions and deeper thought. There was a desire to engage in a dialogue between minimalism and ostentation, and do it in a manner to bring both comfort and peace to the space being designed.

In the living room is a commissioned bronze sculpture of Bharata by 5th generation sculptor- Yethin Nagesh.  Bharata according to the ancient Indian epics was a legendary Emperor of the Chandravamsha dynasty and worshipper of the Sun God. Every evening, this sculpture of the Grand Emperor offers homage to Sun God as it sits bathed in the rays of the setting Sun that illuminate the home.

A thoughtful balance between concept and craft, lies at the heart of this project. Details here are not decorative afterthoughts; they are integral to the architecture, reinforcing the overall design intent and creating spaces that feel cohesive, intentional, and enduring.

The doors have a distinct characteristic which was perfected on site by engaging with artisans and carpenters. A handle set into the thickness of the door, indicated by brass detailing has become a signature to the studio’s work.

Three bedrooms accompanied by walk-in wardrobes, a media room equipped with a Home-Theatre system and study, an open living-dining-bar space, a large balcony looking into the city central park (Cubbon Park), kitchen and utility collectively form the home.

Materials that embody a natural, soothing characteristic constitute the interior - Ashwood floors, smoked walnut veneered walls, natural brass speakers and switches, cork and natural wallpaper claddings, pewter and stainless steel accents. The materials are combined in perfect harmony and bask in the sunlight as it flows through the home. The chosen materials also lend a sense of permanence and quiet luxury, allowing their inherent textures and tones to speak for themselves. The result is an environment where craftsmanship and restraint coexist—where luxury is felt in the quality of materials and their execution, and simplicity enhances the home’s timeless, elegant grandeur.

“Inspired by my late Grandfather’s design and construction practice, me and my team usually come together to create a collection of furniture and objects, unique to each project. More often than not, these bespoke objects are either investment pieces with an intention of being family heirlooms or born out of material sensitivity. Intuitive creations made from offcuts and materials left over on site towards the end of the construction work. In this project, the dining table was designed and made to be a family heirloom and the coffee tables were made from left over materials on site.

I designed the interior to be a home of grace, not trend – designed to age with finesse, to gather stories and deepen in meaning over time. The home speaks softly, engaging those present in it to soak in its numinous vibration and encouraging them to flow with it”
